CECA is the Civil Engineering Contractors Association and they chose Tabor Living as their Charity of the Year in 2023. In June 2023 their member organisations got to work transforming the outside space at Tabor Living. Before they started work the space was unwelcoming, with cracked concrete, unsafe railings and overgrown vegetation at the edges.
As part of their support for Tabor CECA members laid new tarmac, repaired and painted the walls and cleared vegetation. We had a new garage door fitted and installed and the railings were taken down and replaced with safe, building regulation compliant railings. From donated timber planters and an outside shelter were handmade and transported to site, and benches provide seating for guests. Jackie, a volunteer from St Catherine of Siena Church, filled the planters with beautiful flowers and herbs, adding colour to the garden.
The space is now a welcoming oasis of calm in the middle of Birmingham, somewhere that guests can enjoy fresh air and summer sun. An opening evening event took place in August with Bob Sleigh, the Deputy Mayor, officially opening the community space. CECA members came together and celebrated the results of their collaboration, which is valued at over £65,000. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to CECA Midlands and their members for choosing Tabor Living as their Charity of the Year and for all their hard work in transforming the outside space. We hope Tabor’s guests will enjoy it for many years to come.

CECA Awards Dinner
CECA’s support continued into September when they held their Annual Award Dinner in Birmingham, with their members being nominated and winning awards from different categories. The venue was the Burlington Hotel, and the Horton Room was transformed for the occasion. Sharon Fear, Tabor Living’s project manager, and Kevin Hateley, Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing for Father Hudson’s were invited to attend and speak at the event.
Generous CECA members donated £1932 on the night before Gift Aid which is a wonderful contribution to Tabor Living. The after dinner speaker was Toyah Willcox and Kevin was lucky enough to get a photo with her on the night.
