Our Family Support Manager Zena, and Laura (a parent at one of our schools) are running the Stafford Half marathon on Sunday 23rd March 2025, to raise money for their Summer 2025 holiday scheme.
Zena works in the Family Support project of Father Hudson’s, in Newcastle Under Lyme and Stoke on Trent, supporting children and families in local schools.
We support, guide and nurture children and their families to overcome any barriers or challenges they may face in order to empower them, build resilience and for them to be the very best they can be!
In 2023 families enjoyed a seaside trip to Rhyl, and last year they travelled to Trentham Gardens, photos below!
For some of our children school holidays are filled with dread, as school is their only means of socialising and having a warm cooked meal every day. We want to make sure that all children look forward to the school holidays and to have the opportunity to make memories and to experience different social activities that they wouldn’t normally be able to do. With the money raised we will be able to organise activities, day trips, picnics, summer activity packs and social events and much more.
Trentham Gardens Summer 2024
Christine, Aoife and Zena from our Family Support team in Stoke planned an activity day at Trentham Gardens. They took 17 children and young people from St John Fisher High School and St Teresa’s Primary School.
Trentham Gardens kindly offered us a discount on entrance into the gardens, while the SVP in Newcastle-Under-Lyme kindly donated £120 to cover the costs of admission.
All the children, Zena and Aoife had great fun in the Maze, some were better than others at finding their way out!
The children, parents and Zena enjoyed the Barefoot walk. Tantalising their toes with an array of textures including mud, bark, grass and pebbles. The children especially liked walking through the mud!
We had lots of fun on the zip wire!
Rhyl 2023
In April 2023 the Family Support team received a generous anonymous donation which meant they could get planning summer trips for the families they support. On Tuesday 1st August, the first seaside trip took place. Zena and Christine from the Stoke on Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme team took a coach load of families to Rhyl.
Luckily, the sun shone and children enjoyed splashing in the sea, eating ice cream, climbing walls, playing on the arcade 2p machines, crazy golf, and fairground rides. A local organisation kindly donated money when they heard of the seaside trip, which meant families had spending money to make the most of their seaside day out.
