Our Family Support team have had a busy and fun summer. Through the summer holidays they have kept in touch with the families they support and arranged fun days out to Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Trentham Gardens.
The team have also enjoyed an away day with a difference at Shrewsbury Prison where they had to work together to escape their cells.
Our Family Support workers Zena and Christine were on hand at St John Fisher Catholic College on Thursday 22nd August to support young people on GCSE results day.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Our Family Support Worker Jenny runs a small coffee morning group at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School.
Jenny and the group arranged a day out to Birmingham Botanical Gardens in June.
It was a day of rest and reflection individually but also as a group of parents that have had quality time together.
Family Support Away Day
Our Family Support team had an away day with a difference…at Shrewsbury Prison! The prison was a fully working prison up until 2013, and is now used as an escape room experience.
Shrewsbury Prison has also been used as a filming location, in 2020 the BBC drama Time, starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham was filmed there.
After their escape room experience they toured the prison, took photographs and had lunch. It was a day filled with fun, laughter and a well deserved break from the pressures of Family Support. All staff thoroughly enjoyed this day.
The Family Support team were divided into two groups of four, and put on their orange prison jumpsuits.
Christine, Jemma, Zena and Nick were handcuffed in a cell with no light, and only a small torch to solve their escape. Unfortunately, they didn’t manage to escape in time!
Eunice, Aoife, Zoe and Jenny were in a cell with light and had lots of mathematical problems. Their team did manage to escape!
Trentham Gardens
Christine, Aoife and Zena from our Family Support team in Stoke planned an activity day at Trentham Gardens. They took 14 children and three children from St John Fisher High School and St Teresa’s Primary School.
Trentham Gardens kindly offered us a discount on entrance into the gardens, while the SVP in Newcastle-Under-Lyme kindly donated £120 to cover the costs of admission.
All the children, Zena and Aoife had great fun in the Maze, some were better than others at finding their way out!
The children, parents and Zena enjoyed the Barefoot walk. Tantalising their toes with an array of textures including mud, bark, grass and pebbles. The children especially liked walking through the mud!
We had lots of fun on the zip wire!
GCSE results day
Zena and Christine supported their Year 11 learners from St John Fisher Catholic College with the collection of their GCSE results.
They were there to offer support and guidance not only to the learners they support but for any learner who needed advice or guidance after receiving their results and to steer them into the right direction for their future learning.
Well done to all the Year 11s!
