COVID-19 Update from Father Hudsons Care

St Chad's Sanctuary

/media/community-projects/library/st-chads-header.jpgBased in central Birmingham, St Chad’s Sanctuary offers hospitality and practical support to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.

St Chad’s Sanctuary is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) that works with the Infant Jesus Sisters, the Salvation Army, the Archdiocese of Birmingham and Father Hudson’s Care. It provides practical support to large numbers – sometimes as many as 200 in one day – of asylum seekers and refugees. This includes providing clothes, food, welfare information and English classes.

Activities at the centre include learning English through song, art workshops, games and a Conversation Café, which help people develop their language skills in a relaxed and friendly setting. St Chad’s Sanctuary also runs learning sessions for families and children who are asylum seekers and organises excursions during the summer holidays.

It was founded in 2010 by Sr Margaret Walsh of the Infant Jesus Sisters as she saw a need in Birmingham to offer hospitality to asylum seekers, especially those without recourse to public funds. Father Hudson’s Care became involved in 2018 to support the CIO with governance and HR services.

St Chad’s Sanctuary is open most weekdays during term time, from 10:30am to 3:00pm.

They have an ongoing need for donations of food, clothing and household items. Any donations can be taken during opening hours to:

St Chad’s Sanctuary
72-74 Shadwell Street
Birmingham B4 6HA

Donations can also be brought to Father Hudson’s Care, at St George’s House in Coleshill, during office hours. For more information, visit www.stchadssanctuary.com.
