Our Young at Heart project published their first newsletter in February 2025. Having recently celebrated 10 years of supporting over 55s to reduce isolation and build community the project, based in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme, continues to grow. Two groups recently started at Newcastle Library to explore local history and research your family tree, while another group with Approach Dementia Services https://approachstaffordshire.co.uk/ aims to provide a space for people with dementia and their carers to enjoy singing sessions.
Alex Baines is the Project Manager for Young at Heart, and has worked hard to achieve the VAST Volunteering Gold Award https://vast.org.uk/vast-volunteering-quality-standards-2/. This award recognises Young at Heart for championing accessible, inclusive and high quality volunteering opportunities. The newsletter welcomes volunteers who have joined to support the groups they offer at various locations.
