Schools and Parish Engagement

Our work in Schools

From our very early days, children via their schools have supported our work by raising money during Lent, and this remains one of our most important sources of income.

Today, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools across the Archdiocese continue this support by taking part in our annual Good Shepherd Appeal and our Walk a Mile Campaign.

Our work with Parishes

Parishes within the Archdiocese of Birmingham have always been wonderfully supportive of our work in so many ways. Without this support we simply would not be able to do the work we do.

Annual Parish Collection

Our annual parish collection highlights the level of support and in 2023 it raised over £40k. We are in the process of recruiting more volunteers, who in the weeks leading up to the collection, can help us reach out to more churches and let people know of the work we do.

Becoming a Welcoming Church

In the first half of 2023, we launched our ‘Being a Welcoming Church’ campaign, which has been well supported by several parishes and from this four, special interest groups have been set up. Looking at Disabilities, Older People, Refugees and Homelessness. Another great example of working together.

Christmas Appeal

An area of Parish support that really makes a difference to young people and their families is our Christmas appeal for presents and food. The response in 2023 was wonderful as it allowed us to distribute over 100 hampers and 450 presents.

Continued Support

Certain Parishes are working very closely with some of our Community Projects and in December 2023, we were able to open our newest project, Nicolas Barre House in a partnership with St. John Henry Newman Parish, which welcomed five male refugees into their first tenancies.
