We wish to pay tribute to Sister Maisie Nevin, aged 90 years, who has recently passed away. She was lovingly cared for within and by her community in Southampton. She had expressed that she was ready to continue her journey to God.
In the early 1980s Sister Maisie and Sister Magdalene were invited by Father Hudson’s to work in Balsall Heath, alongside the Mission on the Margins project, supporting men and women in their recovery from addiction and unsafe lifestyles. They lived in a rented house within this red-light district, and through their outreach work felt called to focus their mission on women involved in sex work, and thus Anawim began.
Sister Maisie’s special gift was in reaching out to women, wherever they were, recognising their true dignity. Her pioneering work lives on in the powerful work of Anawim and she will be much missed by all, especially her sister, Sister Bernadette.
Please keep her in your prayers
