Crowdfunding for The Heroes of St. Catherine's Bungalows

Sh Ai

Shabana, whose daughter lives in St Catherine's Bungalows, contacted us as she wanted to say 'thank you' to the staff who work hard to provide a supportive and caring environment for all residents. She launched a Crowdfunding campaign so she - and family members of other peole living at the Bungalows - could raise funds to do something special.

Shabana shared her story with us:

Crowdfunding for The Heroes of St. Catherine’s Bungalows

So, I have been asked quite a few times now why I decided to crowdfund for St. Catherine’s Bungalows. For me, it’s a very simple answer: I just wanted to give thanks, and when better than during these particularly challenging times that we are all currently facing.

However, I didn’t want to give thanks to just a single person, or even a couple of people, but to all the Teams who support the residents, day in day out….many of these people can often appear ‘invisible’ as they continue doing their jobs and contributing to the smooth running of things at St. Catherine’s Bungalows.

After making enquiries, I was astounded by the number of people who in one way or another help to care for the residents of St. Catherine’s Bungalows… an army of over 90 Support Workers, Maintenance Staff and Admin Teams. That’s a lot of people, so my fundraising needed to be scaled up accordingly. This is when I thought of inviting other parents to work in partnership with me, and the idea of Crowdfunding for the Heroes of St. Catherine’s Bungalows was decided on.

But why give thanks? Well during these particularly difficult times, the other parents and myself have observed first-hand how the Heroes of St. Catherine’s have joined together to motivate each other, support extended family members emotionally and most importantly continued to ensure that the quality of care for our loved ones was never compromised. And this needed to be recognised.

I am so proud to confirm that we have not only met, but passed our target of £2,000 (which incidentally was reached within three weeks of the Crowdfunding page being set up), thanks to family, friends and my very own school community of St. Benedict’s Catholic High School in Alcester, who have been simply wonderful in their support.

We now have the pleasure of organising a number of thank you’s for all those at St. Catherine’s Bungalows who continue to demonstrate on a daily basis that “the only lasting beauty is the beauty of the heart” as they go about their daily chores.

For now, these Thank Yous will remain a secret, so watch this space for updates.
