COVID-19 Update from Father Hudsons Care

Are you up to the 2.6 challenge?

Coronavirus has changed all our lives.

We've missed out on fun events, seeing friends and family, celebrating Easter and other special occasions.

It's also had an especially large impact on the UK's charities, like ourselves, whose work is as vital as ever in this difficult time. Across all of Father Hudson’s Care we are staying true to our mission of supporting those in need. We are focusing our efforts on those most in need and those whose home is with Father Hudson’s. We are changing the way we support people, but love, respect and above all, safety remain at the heart of our operations right now.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events and the loss of billions in fundraised income. We ourselves have seen the cancellation of our Annual Fundraising Ball, which was due to raise funds for older people living at St Joseph’s Care Home. The cancellation of the Manchester Marathon, Birmingham Velo and other events mean that people who were fundraising for us are no longer doing so. And the school closures have greatly impacted our annual Good Shepherd Appeal, as we can no longer visit schools to give assemblies about our work or celebrate together as we normally would.

To help us at Father Hudson’s Care to continue to help people during this period, the 2.6 Challenge will launch this Sunday – the 26th of April 2020.

/media/news/library/pauls-marathon-training.jpgSunday should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world's biggest one-day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019.

Instead, we are asking you to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise to support our work. The 2.6 Challenge can be anything that works for you. You can run or walk 2.6 miles, 2.6km or for 26 minutes.

You can do it in your home, or garden if you have one. For instance, you could go up and down the stairs 26 times, do a 26-minute exercise class, throw a paper aeroplane at a target 26 times – anything you like.

We'd love our supporters to get involved and take part in an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26. You can fundraise for us too via this Virgin Money Giving page or on JustGiving.

The challenge will last for a week and is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the government guidelines on exercise and social distancing, so please remember to stay local.
