Keep it safe, keep it legal

When you’re organising an event, it is important to consider any safety aspects so you can concentrate on raising money to transform people’s lives who are in need in our area (fight poverty, exclusion and inequality). Here are some tips to help you.

Raffles

There are rules around raffles that should be followed, and sometimes you’ll need a licence from your local council. If you have any questions, the fundraising team will be happy to help. Email us on fundraising@fatherhudsons.org.uk

Gift Aid

We can claim Gift Aid on most donations, so please ask everyone donating to tick the gift aid box on your sponsorship form. Please make sure they give their house number and postcode, as we need their full address to claim.  Your sponsor has to be a UK tax payer. With this information, we can claim and it’ll mean we’ll receive an extra 25p on every pound raised at no extra cost to the person donating.

Branding

Our charity registration no. 512922 (England & Wales) must be on all printed items that you use. If you’d like to use our logo, please get in touch for permission.

Insurance

Remember that you’re responsible for any fundraising activity that you hold and we can’t accept liability for any activity or event you organise or take part in. If you’re planning an event that involves the general public you’ll need to budget for public liability insurance, which you can get from any insurer. If you’re holding an event at a venue that has liability insurance (such as a pub or village hall), be sure to check that it covers your activity.

Food hygiene

If you’re selling food at your event, remember to store it correctly and keep children and animals out of the preparation areas. Always provide appropriate clothing and don’t forget to label all food that contains nuts or other allergens. Make sure you follow the food hygiene rules and advice for fundraising events at www.food.gov.uk.

Licensing

If you want to collect money on the street, sell alcohol at your event or provide public entertainment, you might need a licence from your local council. Contact the fundraising team or your local council to find out.
