COVID-19 Update from Father Hudsons Care

Inspiring Fundraisers

There are many people across the Archdiocese who raise funds for our work. Here are just some of the people who have got involved.

“Run-phobic” Emma challenged herself to run the London Marathon. Emma created a blog, which she filled with updates on her training runs, photos, inspirational stories and the highs and lows of her marathon preparation.

Emma said:

“All of this will be critical in helping Father Hudson’s Care to continue their amazing work. Every penny will go to help vulnerable individuals who are located within the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Young, old, male, female, religious or atheist; Father Hudson’s dedicate their work to ensuring that everyone receives the love and dignity that they deserve.”

You can read Emma’s inspirational blog here.

Alison, Helen and Fr Michael

In April 2019, Helen Anson, manager at St Catherine’s Bungalows, Alison Evans, HR assistant, and Fr Michael White of Caritas AOB completed the Birmingham Vèlo - a gruelling 100-mile cycling event around Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull and surrounding areas.

Alison supported St Joseph’s Care Home, Helen raised funds for the sensory rook at  St Catherine’s Day Service, and Fr Mike donated his sponsorship to be used to help projects across the organisation, wherever they are needed.

If you think fundraising for your favourite cause is all about climbing mountains, cycling across countries or taking on a Marathon, think again! You can raise funds without even leaving your seat! How? By using one or all of the many sites where you shop and the site donates: sites like Amazon Smile; Give as You Live; and EasyFundraising.

Kevin Halligan, Deputy Estates Manager at Father Hudson’s Care orders in the region of £100 worth of goods from Amazon every month to keep our site well-maintained. He signed up after a bit of arm twisting from fundraiser Ginny Cullen and has raised over £40 so far!

Kevin says: “It made sense for me to sign up and it was really easy to do. All the purchases I make for work count towards our total and its basically free money for a great cause. I say just do it and everything you buy online can count towards Father Hudson’s total. It feels great to be helping doing what I do anyway!”

We say, carry on what you’re doing Kevin, ensuring the Coleshill site is kept safe, fit for purpose and a nice place to work AND helping us to transform people’s lives when they need our support most.

Maureen, Red House Farm Garden and Nursery

Every year, Maureen Weaver from Redditch opens her beautiful half-acre kitchen garden to visitors in return for donations. We very much appreciate the efforts of Mrs Weaver in creating a tranquil, welcoming place and for donating proceeds to Father Hudson’s Care.

Maureen has opened her garden to visitors for over 25 years. For many of those she was a member of the National Garden Scheme but now opens her garden daily to customers of her farm and nursery.

Visitors can follow the winding paths to see a flourishing garden that is carefully planned to display an array of colour and beauty all year round. Situated in the grounds of an eighteenth century farmhouse, Red House Farm also boasts a nursery offering a wide range of plants for sale.

If you would like visit, her garden at Red House Farm, Flying Horse Lane, Bradley Green, Redditch, Worcestershire B96 6QT is open to anybody and you will be very welcome.
