Hospitality volunteer Ė Tabor House

Hospitality volunteers support and help our guests to feel welcome at Tabor House, assisting in preparing food and drinks, preparing beds and cleaning. There are three shifts: evenings from 6:30pm to 10:15pm, overnight 10pm to 7:15am, and mornings from 7am to 9am.

What does this role involve?

The team of volunteers:

  • Engage in supporting and helping our guests to feel welcome at Tabor House
  • Assist in setting up and setting down of the venue, particularly making the beds and cleaning
  • Assist in preparing drinks and the meal in the venue’s kitchen area
  • In the evenings and mornings, eat with guests and help to build a strong Tabor House community
  • Participate with guests in the activities and the chores at Tabor House
  • Take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of themselves and others during the shift.

What attributes and skills do I need?

You will need:

  • Experience in working face-to-face with people
  • Some sensitivity to issues relating to homelessness, including mental health issues, and drug and alcohol abuse (training and awareness raising will be provided)
  • An ability to respond calmly but quickly in an emergency
  • A willingness to follow instructions from the shift leader and work as a team
  • A heart for vulnerable and needy people, and a willingness to be challenged and changed.
