Located in Birmingham, Sophia House provides female refugees, migrants and vulnerable women with a supportive and welcoming home in shared accommodation, as well as support with their first housing tenancy as they settle into their new lives in the UK. Sophia House has good transport links to the city centre and is a short walk away from the local shopping centre and high street. Nearby are also a number of health centres for a doctor, dentists, parks, libraries, and leisure centres.
Opened in September 2018, Sophia House can accommodate three women at a time. Its mission is inspired by the Catholic ethos of the founding partners to walk in solidarity with newcomers who seek sanctuary in the UK. Sophia House is upheld by its founding partners: the sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd; Our Lady and St Brigid’s Catholic Parish; and Father Hudson’s Care.
For women who need that extra helping hand, Father Hudson’s Care staff and volunteers from the local parish provide support and guidance for each individual including welfare benefits, accessing GP and healthcare, signposting to local services, accessing education, managing money and befriending.
The accommodation is charged at standard housing benefit rate, plus a small contribution towards utilities and service costs. We can offer licence agreements for those on the social housing waiting list, or a shorthold tenancy for up to a year.
This fully furnished property has a communal dining room, living room and kitchen. It has three individual bedrooms. Upstairs is a bathroom with separate toilet and downstairs another separate toilet and a separate shower room. It also has a large front garden/drive, back garden and garage.
