COVID-19 Update from Father Hudsons Care

Be a Foster Carer

/media/children_families/library/girl.jpgAt New Routes we put the welfare of children and young people at the heart of all we do. As such, we recognise that our foster carers must be supported and valued so they can be confident in their role. We therefore provide a full induction and lots of initial support, as well as ongoing training to help you in your fostering role. There are also many opportunities to meet other foster carers, who can be an invaluable source of help and encouragement. Support groups, mentoring and social events are part of the unique service we provide.

As a New Routes foster carer you will:

  • Receive an allowance for the child or young person in your care and a fee to reward and compensate you, the foster carer, for your time and hard work.
  • Receive a full induction and support, including a complete programme of training before fostering and the nationally recognised Training, Support and Development (TSD) standard during your first twelve months.
  • Receive an excellent ongoing training programme with a commitment to your own personal and professional development.
  • Be allocated a social worker to provide excellent support, advice and supervision, tailored to meet your needs and those of the children or young people placed with you throughout your fostering.
  • Receive out-of-hours support from the social work team.
  • Participate in regular foster carers’ support groups, gaining invaluable support from others and tips to help you along the way.
  • Be allocated a mentor and have access to experienced foster carers ready to share advice.
  • Join FosterTalk.
  • Receive a foster carer handbook.
  • Have access to a respite allowance.
  • Receive a loyalty bonus.
  • Be invited to attend social and leisure events for foster carers, children and young people.
  • Have opportunities to work with the team.
