Birth Relatives Support and Services Counselling

Which Mother and Baby Homes do you hold adoption records for?
Father Hudson’s Society is always pleased to hear from birth relatives who have previously parted from a child through adoption, via this agency.  The Society arranged adoptions from Francis Way, Woodville and St Paul’s maternity homes.

Is counselling available to me?
Yes, you will have the opportunity to discuss your situation with a social worker experienced in adoption who will understand the impact that adoption has had on your life.  You will be able to explore what outcome renewed communication and/or contact will have for you and the other people involved, and to consider what the outcome may be for everyone if you opt to use our intermediary services.  If you need more intensive counselling, we can direct you to a specialist counsellor.

Am I allowed to receive any information?
We are allowed to provide information from the records which would not identify the adoptive family but would help to answer some of the questions a birth relative may have.  It may also be possible to have some idea of what has happened to the adopted person in the intervening years if they have been in contact with the agency.  We can also tell you if the adopted person has previously tried to find you without success or whether on the other hand, they have registered a veto re not being contacted.

Can I leave updated information about myself on file?
Yes there is the opportunity for you to provide information to be kept on the adoption file to be passed on if and when the adopted person contacts the agency.
