Good Shepherd Appeal

It has long been the tradition for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to take part in our Good Shepherd Appeal during Lent. We are extremely grateful to all the schools that support us in this way.

Mindful of the need for fasting and sacrificial giving during Lent many primary school-children take home our colourful Good Shepherd Appeal boxes so that they can put in the money they had saved through not eating sweets during Lent.

Some schools take part in our Odd Shoe Day when pupils pay £1 to wear odd shoes for the day with many coming up with ingenious ideas and interpretations of “odd “. Other schools have their own fundraising ideas and have many ingenious ways of raising money on our behalf both during Lent and throughout the year.

Our two Parish and Schools Fundraisers work with schools, discussing their fundraising events and giving talks to the children about the work of Father Hudson’s Society. We hope that the children enjoy the talks and afterwards have a much greater knowledge about the wide range of caring work carried out by Father Hudson’s Society.

During a recent Good Shepherd Mass for schools Kevin Caffrey, Director, stressed that although fundraising is important it is equally important for children and young people to learn about the work of the society. Through their part in our caring work they share in what is a witness to our faith in action.
