Parish Support

As the Social Care Agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham we value the prayer and financial support we receive from parishes throughout the Archdiocese. image

Parishes support us in many different ways including:

Our Annual Parish collection.

This mandatory second collection in September is a vital source of income. We greatly appreciate parishioner’s generosity in their contributions to this collection.

Crib Offerings

Many parishes choose to donate their crib offerings to Father Hudson’s Society and for this we are grateful.

Lenten Alms

During this period of abstinence and sacrificial giving the donations from parishes help us to continue our work of reaching out to those in need throughout the Archdiocese.

Home Collecting Boxes

Some parishes distribute our Home Collection boxes to members of the congregation who wish to help us in this way. A member of the congregation agrees to be the Father Hudson’s Society home collecting box secretary and collects and empties imagethe boxes twice a year on our behalf.

Street Collections

We are grateful to the diminishing number of parishes which continue to organise street collections on our behalf. With many dedicated street collection organisers within parishes becoming too old or infirm to continue in this role it is becoming increasingly difficult to replace them. The fundraising department welcomes enquiries from anybody who is prepared to be the organiser for a street collection in their parish.

Supermarket collections

As it becomes more difficult for organisers to recruit enough collectors to man a street collection we welcome enquiries from parishes willing to organise a supermarket collection on our behalf. These require less collectors, are under cover and collectors feel more secure.

Fundraising events

Parish led fundraisingimageevents both small and large can really help make a difference to some of the poorest, most isolated and marginalised people in the Archdiocese. There are many events that are suitable for parishes to organise including:

Coffee mornings, bring and buy sales, car boot sales, concerts, safari suppers, promise auctions, quiz evenings ( we can supply the questions ) sponsored walks, swims, slims, bible reads, stay awakes etc etc karaoke evenings car washes.

The list is endless. We can give advice and provide materials. If your parish organises an event on our behalf please take photographs and send us copies so that we can include details on this page and in our newsletters.

Parish Contacts

Our aim is to have a parish contact in every parish to help to promote our work. This may involve ensuring our leaflets and posters are displayed, encouraging financial and prayerful support or assisting in the success of the annual mandatory collection for Father Hudson’s Society in September. Some parish contacts also organise fundraising events or street collections, others act as Home Collection Box Secretaries. If you are interested in becoming a parish contact discuss it with your priest then contact The Fundraising Department on 01675 434000 for further details.

Raising awareness

Our Parish and Schools Fundraisers are available to visit parish groups to talk about our varied work in order to give parishioners a better insight into the work of the Society.

Children’s Liturgies

We provide downloads of Children’s Advent and Lenten Liturgies on the School Resources page.
