Providing additional information from our adoption records

Are you allowed to share information from the adoption file with me?
Adoption Agencies have the discretion to disclose information to adopted adults from their adoption records, including the information needed to obtain a copy of their original birth certificate.  (Section 15 of 1983 Adoption Agency Regulations).

What happens when I obtain the information?
Father Hudson’s Society will therefore provide you with a portfolio of information for you from our records and this information will be shared with you by a qualified social worker experienced in adoption.  The information may include some original correspondence.  Records may vary from being sparsely recorded to having a lot of detail.  You will be asked to provide proof of your identity.

Where do I have to go to obtain the information?
You have a choice about which agency you would like to share your adoption information with you.
- Your local Social Services Adoption Department or
local Adoption Agency.
- Father Hudson’s Society at Coleshill, Witney or
Newcastle offices.

What do I do next?
Please complete the downloadable application form, indicating your choice of agency. You may alternatively phone the duty social worker any afternoon on 01675 434020, if you would like to discuss this first.

Is there a charge for this service?
There is no charge for this service.  However, we welcome donations to assist with the costs in preparing information and meeting with you.
