The Commission for Social Care Inspection (often abbreviated to C.S.C.I.. “see sky”) is the name of the body established by the Government to regulate and assess the quality of the care provided by care establishments. All of Father Hudsons Residential provision is registered with C.S.C.I. This means that an inspector or inspectors from the Commission makes an un announced visit to one of our homes to carry out a thorough audit and inspection of what we do and of how well we care for those who come to live us. A report is then published on the C.S.C.I. website for anyone who is interested in a particular service to read. The home in question will also have a copy for people to see. care providers I can look at ?”……”how much will it cost to stay there?”

Whilst these may seem like straightforward enquiries, the answers to them can be quite complex as they all depend upon each person’s individual circumstances and level of need. It may help if you contact your local Social Services or Social Care and Health offices to request to speak to the Duty Social worker, he or she will be able to guide you through the issues you may wish to discuss. Alternatively, you can ring us at Father Hudson’s and someone will be happy to help or advise you.

Assessment of Needs

Whoever you speak to about your queries, good advice will suggest that you request a Community Care Assessment. This is carried out by a Social Worker from your Local Authority Social Services or Social Care and Health Team. The assessment will help to identify the best way to meet a persons needs and the resources available to do it. This might result in a residential care referral, day care or, extra help being sent into someone’s home to help with a range of daily living needs, dressing, bathing, cooking, etc.  Details of how much you will be asked to pay towards the costs of any care provided will also come from the assessment as the Social Worker will need to ask you about your financial circumstances.  This because Local Authorities will only pay the full cost of any care it is responsible for if your personal financial situation shows that you are below the threshold at which the Government says you should pay something towards the costs of your care. Sometimes a person may be expected by the Local authority to pay the full cost if financial assets put a person beyond the limit at which the Government say the Local authority has to contribute.
